Sergio Agüero will be available for Manchester City's opening Premier League match, the visit of Newcastle United
on 19 August, with the striker set to return to training by the end of
the week following the knee injury that ruled him out of all of the
club's pre-season games.
The news is a boost for Manuel Pellegrini as the new manager attempts to reclaim the championship for City. Agüero's last appearance was in a 5-3 win over Chelsea in New York in late May during City's mini-tour of America.
By the time of Newcastle's visit it will be nearly three months since the Argentina forward has played so whether Pellegrini will name him in the starting XI remains in the balance.
The manager is without his key central defender Matija Nastasic for up to six weeks following the ankle injury he suffered in the Asia Trophy in Hong Kong.
