Gareth Bale: Spurs forward 'wants to speak to Real Madrid'

Tottenham's Gareth Bale has indicated that he wants to speak to Real Madrid, but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is adamant the Welshman will not be sold.

Real are expected to formalise their interest in the coming week and test Tottenham's resolve to hang to a player who scored 26 goals in all competitions last season.

Tottenham arrived back in London on Sunday from their final pre-season matches in Hong Kong. Bale did not play in either of the club's matches in the Asia Trophy because of a muscle problem.

Real have yet to submit a written offer, while Spurs are determined to keep the 24-year-old, even if they receive a world record bid of £85m.

Tottenham are hopeful of persuading Bale to fulfil one year of the three remaining on his current contract.

Bale joined Spurs from Southampton for £10m in 2007.

In May, Bale's agent Jonathan Barnett told a Spanish television show that his client would be honoured to hear from Madrid president Florentino Perez.

With Real stepping up their interest, the Bale camp this weekend told leading figures at Spurs of their client's wish to be able to discuss the possibility of a move to Spain.

On Friday, Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas refused to answer questions on Bale's situation, except to say contract talks were continuing with the man who won both the Professional Footballers' Association's player of the year and young player of the year awards last season.

It remains to be seen whether Bale plays in Tottenham's friendly against Monaco this weekend, but in Spain there are already suggestions that new Real manager Carlo Ancelotti is preparing for the arrival of the Welshman.

By the time of Newcastle's visit it will be nearly three months since the Argentina forward has played so whether Pellegrini will name him in the starting XI remains in the balance.

New Manchester City head coach Manuel Pellegrini has been handed a huge fitness boost with the news that key front man Sergio Aguero is set to return to training on Friday ahead of the new Premier League season, according to reports in the Guardian.

The prolific Argentina international has been dogged by problems to his knee for some time now, forcing the 25-year-old to have already missed portions of the two campaigns he has been at Eastlands.
Last season, for instance, when Roberto Mancini’s big-money side surrendered the Premier League title back to arch-rivals Manchester United, Aguero was out of action for a month with the problem on two separate occasions, absences that ultimately may have cost the club the league championship come the end of the season.

The striker was sidelined with a knee injury from Aug 19 to Sept 17, and then again between March 1 and 30, while Aguero has also been forced to rest the problem during preseason, with the forward having not featured for City since playing in their 5-3 win over Chelsea in New York in May on the club’s mini post-season tour of the United States.

However, Pellegrini will now be relieved to hear that Aguero is all set to finally resume training, with the Chilean’s first competitive match in charge of City against Newcastle United at Eastlands less than ten days’ away.

Football agent Barry McIntosh has told British clubs that they are missing out on a wealth of talent from South America because of the red tape surrounding work permit issues is too troublesome to negotiate, the Mirror reports.

Estudiantes striker Duvan Zapata looks likely to be the latest casualty to the home office as his move to West Ham United fell through, which could cause him to head to mainland Europe instead of trying his luck again at getting into the Premier League.

Barry McIntosh has previously overseen deals involving Mauro Zarate, Christian Benitez and Andres D’Alessandro by helping bring them into the Premier League on loan, and the South American expert has said that there would be many more if it weren’t for the stringent work permit rules.
Radamel Falcao, Sergio Aguero, Angel Di Maria, James Rodriguez, Oscar Cardozo, Juan Manuel Vargas and Nicolas Gaitan are just a few of the names he also believes he could have helped into the Uk.
“Ryan Giggs would not have got a work permit at Manchester United if Wales was not part of the UK,” he said.

“Lionel Messi as precocious a talent as he is, wouldn’t have got a work permit and fulfilled the criteria to come to England when he joined Barcelona as a kid.
“Realistically you have to be an average of 25-26 years old to get to the point to qualify for a top international team to get the required games to get a work permit here.
“Therefore it is hard for the likes of Zapata now and other special talents who have not come to England previously.

“When they do qualify is once they established international players who are £20million plus players.
“The other ones that do arrive, only come from having EU passports connected to their family.
“The work permit authorities will theoretically make exceptions to allow ‘special talent’ in.
“But they need to realise to make it as a young foreign player in Argentina for example you do need to be a special talent.
“A major contributor to the whole Argentinian economy is developing their own players and exporting them.
“In Argentina about 92 per cent of all players are Argentinian. About 1 per cent are from Colombia and 3 per cent from Uruguay.
“The rest are from Peru or other South American countries – excluding Brazil due to the rivalry between the countries.

“So if a Colombian like Falcao or Peruvian like Vargas or  Paraguayan such as Cardoza is deemed better that what they have in Argentina, that is the first true  indicator that the player is a special talent.

“And as well as work permits for footballers needing to be more flexible here in England, I think managers need to be more open-minded about who they used to bring players in.
“A level playing field where all agents are welcomed by a manager as opposed to their preferential agents would also help.
“I remember when I was in Argentina scouting and I recommended Aguero to Sir Alex’s brother Martin Ferguson to take him to Manchester United.
“Martin went and saw him play for Independiente against Huracan and Aguero was available for Euros 3.5million as a 17-year-old.
“Aguero has gone on to play for Atletico Madrid and is now at Man City which is ironic.
“Angel Di Maria is another I tried to take to England for less than Euros 5m before he went to Benfica.
“James Rodgriquez, who recently joined Monaco, I tried to take to Alex McLeish at Birmingham and Harry Redknapp at Tottenham and Celtic for Euros 3.5m.
“I could see he was going to be an excellent talent.
“He ended up going to Porto for around Euros 9.5m and subsequently he has gone to Monaco.
“Radamel Falcao, I saw him playing wide right for River Plate back in 2008.
“I identified if this boy was given a chance upfront he would do well.
“The price was Euros 2.5milion and I tried to take him to Birmingham in January 2008.
“In the end he is the one that put Andre Villas Boas on the map and won the Portuguese league with Porto and the Europa League.
“I also suggested Euros 1.75m for Oscar Cardozo and tried to persuade Harry to get him for Portsmouth when he was playing for Old Newell’s Boys.
“Juan Manuel Vargas I tried to take him to Stuart Pearce at Man City for less than Euros 2million.
“Portsmouth were also interested but he then ended up going to Fiorentina for Euros 16million.
“So there are lots of great players who I recommended to Premier League or Championship clubs when they were very cheap and little known.
“They were missed opportunities for various reasons, but hopefully Zapata won’t be.”

Sergio Aguero tries to buy five players for boyhood club Independiente

With a salary of around $16 million per season at Manchester City, it's fair to say that Sergio Agüero is doing alright for cash.

As a Premier League player, the Argentinean is obliged to spend his disposable income on obnoxious cars, McMansions, games consoles, nightclub tabs and women who appear in Nuts magazine, but he recently decided to use his money in a more virtuous manner.

According to his father, Kun offered to buy five players for his former side Independiente. As a token of his gratitude to the club he joined at age nine — and who made him the youngest person to play in the Argentinean top flight when they threw him into the first team at 15 — Agüero also offered to pay the salaries of those five players.

Amazingly, not only did the club not take him up on the offer, but they didn't even bother to call him back. ESPN quotes Agüero on Argentinian radio Solo Rojo:

"Sergio Aguero offered to buy five players and pay their salaries. We asked Carlos Squeo [assistant to manager Miguel Angel Brindisi] for a list of players.

"We don’t know what players they want because no-one called back. Not Squeo, not Brindisi. [There is] No leadership. I feel there is a slight against Sergio."

Independiente have been on the ropes since last season, having suffered their first relegation from the Argentine Primera División for the first time in their 109-year history.

They could have really used Agüero's resources in their Primera B Nacional promotion campaign, but unlike Spanish Segunda B side Albacete, who recently received a £200,000 donation from former player Andres Iniesta to pay their players, it appears that the 16-time Argentinean champions were too proud to accept his offer. Either that or they assumed it was just Franck Ribery prank calling them again.

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero is reportedly considering his future with the Primier League runners-up following the signings of striker Alvaro Negredo and Steven Jovetic this summer.
The Citizens currently have five strikers in the first team squad – Sergio Aguero, Steven Jovetic, Edin Dzeko, Alvaro Negredo, and John Guidetti.

Last season, Aguero made 30 Premier League appearances, scoring 12 goals – however, the 25-year old only averaged an hour of playing time per game.
He did suffer a knee injury at the start of the 2012/13 season which saw him sidelined for a short period, but found himself in and out of the side due to his inconsistent form.
With new manager Manuel Pellegrini being an advocate of the 4-2-3-1 formation, Aguero faces stiff competition for a starting place.

Jovetic can play as a second striker, just behind the front man – a position Sergio Aguero has also featured in last season. But reports are suggesting he feels he’s no longer valued by the club.
His teammate Edin Dzeko was also a player who was linked with a potential departure, but Pellegrini has been very complimentary towards the Bosnia & Herzegovina international during pre-season and has insisted the 27-year old has a part to play in the side.

There have been no official bids for Sergio Aguero this summer, but many are worried the Argentine international could well make his resentment clear in the form of a transfer request soon enough in order to raise interest in him.
However, potential suitors to procure his signature are few and far between in Europe. His asking price is around £35M, and although his age suggests he still has plenty of years at the top level to play, not many clubs have the money to prize him away from the Sky Blues.
His future should be thrashed out before the start of the 2013/14 Premier League campaign.
